Bill Slaughter & Gary Wysong 1st Place
Surf City Redfish Tour IFA Results June 2008

This year marked the first ever Surf City, NC Redfish tour tournament and the first tournament the IFA has held in North Carolina. On June 7th, 2008 with a beautiful weather forecast forty-three teams converged on Topsail Islands' sound side waters for a chance to compete for first place and the title to a Ranger Banshee boat. Twenty-nine of those teams weighed fish in that day with the first place team  weight of 14.87 lbs. being taken by friends Bill Slaughter and Gary Wysong (see photo). Total weight of redfish weighed in during the tournament was 300.44 lbs. all of which were released after the weigh in. My team angler Capt. Tommy Scarborough and I fished the tournament with fly rods and caught eight reds on the fly that day and culled several fish to put us in 10th place with a total weight of 12.28 lbs. Tommy and I had a great time fishing together and chasing sight fishable redfish all day, this will be a tournament I am sure not to forget soon! Congrats to Bill and Gary for putting up some impressive weights on fish and thanks to Captain Tommy Scarborough of Georgetown Coastal Adventures for talking me into fishing the tournament!
